About the Agency

Since 1972, the Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission, a seven-member citizen advisory board, has worked to strengthen the public role in solving environmental problems in our communities and the state.

The commission was created under state law with a mission to:
---Facilitate public discussion and resolution of environmental issues.
---Monitor environmental trends and conditions.
---Promote partnerships to protect the environment for future generations.
---Serve as an advisory board to the governor and other state officials on environmental matters.

The strength of EQC is in its commissioners, bringing together Kentuckians from across the state from all walks of life--from the industry, environmental, government and academic communities--to work together collectively for the benefit of the state and the environment.
