State of Kentucky's Environment Reports

Between 1992 and 2004, the EQC published reports tracking environmental trends and indicators. This information can be used to assess how well the state has been protecting Kentucky's environment.  Copies of these reports are available from the EQC.

2004

Between 1992 and 2004, the EQC published reports tracking environmental trends and indicators.  As the result of budget cuts and staff reductions, the commission stopped producing the State of Kentucky's Environment Report in its entirety.  Instead, in 2004 the EQC released a report on specific indicators every other month and report about children's environmental health.

Environmental Indicator of the Month

The EQC Environmental Indicator of the Month highlighted important or emerging environmental issues to our Web site visitors.  Additional sources of information were also provided so that visitors can learn more about these and other environmental issues in Kentucky.

The first released chapter is Forest Indicators and Trends in Kentucky.

September/October Indicator - Logging Trends on Public Forestlands

July/August Indicator - Mercury in Fish Tissue in Kentucky

May/June Indicator - Birth Defects and the Environment

March/April Indicator - Waterborne Diseases and Issues

January/February Indicator - Childhood Lead Poisoning

November/December Indicator - Childhood Asthma

Children's Environmental Health

Protecting the health of our children will require that we work to better understand the relationship between environmental conditions and health outcomes. The Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission’s Children’s Environmental Health in Kentucky report is intended to provide a snapshot of children’s health and potential relationships to the environment in order to promote a greater state dialogue on environmental health in Kentucky.  This report contains embedded spreadsheets, which can be accessed by double clicking on the orange chart icons or the paper clip icons.

Printed copies of the report and CD-ROM are also available from EQC.  Contact EQC to request a report and CD-ROM.

1994

The State of Kentucky's Environment: 1994 Status Report updated the 1992 trends report. The report charts Kentucky's environmental health in the areas of water and air quality, waste management, toxics, forestry, agriculture, wildlife, coal mining, oil and gas and energy.

1992

The 1992 State of Kentucky's Environment report provided the first complete picture of Kentucky's environment. Seven major areas were reviewed in the report: water resources, air quality, waste management, toxics, natural resources, coal mining and energy. In each chapter, environmental indicators are assessed in order to determine if the investments Kentucky has made in protecting the environment are achieving results. The report is intended to provide state policy makers, as well as the citizens of the commonwealth, a better understanding of the environmental conditions in Kentucky and the many challenges facing the state in the 1990s and beyond.
